Jackie's Journey to Julia

And we are off!

It is Satruday AM July 22nd. I woke up at 4 AM and am trying to finish the last few items in the suitcase before we leave today at 8:30 for the airport. We will be heading to Los Angeles. There we will rent a car and spend the night with my friend Kelly.

Kelly is among the group of friends I met during my first adoption. A year or so ago one of the girls appropriately labeled the group of us "The great big Chinese Family". I spent a couple of days last weekend and then Tuesday with the Northwest contingent -- Mary & Marleen. Between us we have 5 Chinese Daughters -- soon to be 7!. Mary talked about the family counselor her family has worked with that has adopted children. The word is this: the best thing that a mom of children adopted internationally can do is to make sure that there is continued contact with other adopted children from the same country. Our girls have a bond that is deeper than is explicable.

This weekend I will see the California contingent and my only regret is that Joy will not be with me. Kelly as three daughters from China, Judy one and Ruth one. Jacob and James will serve as cruise directors for the girls while the moms enjoy laughter, conversation, and whatever we choose to eat or drink!

On Sunday night, we will board a plane to China. The travel will take us 25 hours including layovers. I expect that I will be able to post our safe arrival in Chengdu China in the wee hours of the night Monday US time. Chengdu is about 16 hours ahead of the west coast... or 13 for the east coast.

I will post our itinerary in a separate post to give folks an idea. If anyone has anything they want me to get while in China -- let me know!

Jackie
