In Guangzhou 7/25/06 6:30 AM

It is currently 6:30 AM on Tuesday AM In Guangzhou China… 3:30 PM the on Monday at home. Our flight took less time than we thought – we had a good tailwind. I think the return flight can take longer. We were not scheduled to leave here until 1:30pm today – an 8 hour layover but we were able to get an earlier flight and should be leaving her in about 90 minutes and then will arrive in Chengdu close to noon China time. I was able to call Kathy, our in China facilitator for Heritage and she will arrange for our guide to meet us. We still will not meet Julia until tomorrow, I think, but that way we can get settled in the hotel and repackage gifts, etc for our meeting tomorrow.

The flight was uneventful. The boys and I shared four seats between us and slept for about the first 10 hours off and on. There were only a handful of Americans on the flight – most were Chinese with a few from other places – I am thinking Portugal? For those wondering about seats… we flew economy and there is a reason they are the cheapest. However, it is only a few hours out of my whole life and I am willing to trade comfort for seating. We rode with the Chinese Water Polo team – BIG GUYS and they did not fit well in a single seat – but they survived too.

I am thinking that I will likely lose weight in China. The airline food was less than stellar. That is just fine. We ate our top ramen and crackers. J

The Guangzhou airport is big, new and pretty nice. Very similar to Portland. The LA Airport was an INSANE place to be. Traffic is horrid, there a bazillions of people and the shuttle driver dropped us off BLOCKS from our gate. We did, however, make it and it was fine. So far the boys have been sherpas extraordinaire!

I can not get my wireless network to come up here but I will post this note when I get to Chengdu. It should be by bedtime Monday night for you all. OH… and yes, it is hot and muggy. We waved at all of you in Oregon, Washington and Alaska as we flew over. J They had a cool GPS tracking thing on the TV so we got to watch where we were, how high, fast, the outside temp, and the tailwind/headwind. It was pretty neat.
